All right so I’ve been training with this jacket now for past few weeks love. The jacket for those who like to layer. Up this is like the perfect jacket vortex of course you don’t have to worry about rain and stuff like that getting your soaked what’s neat about the jacket I’ll sort of go over each individual item here so first off we’ll just start. With the sleeves have a little bit of a give to them they have. This other material beyond just the gore-tex material that allows you to sort of open it up so for example i have. My watch here it’s a lot easier to get to the watch a lot of the jackets will have a velcro or something pairs that you have to untie velcro these eating just sort of pull up and then you can get to your watch and then starting from the top here we have a zippered pocket. And so the puckett’s perfect like i have. A go pro battery sitting in here but i. Will Usually put like a house key or something like that in the top pocket that’s perfect for that i wouldn’t put a phone in here because this is a running. Jacket and the way they designed it is. To be more of a minimalist jacket so. There’s the only pocket you’re going to have on the jacket is over here on the left you got a hawk over there and now. Next one of the functions i think’s really cool is it has two zippers these. Are the ykk zippers so you can zip from. The bottom going up so if you’re getting. Hot or something like that you can do that or of course you can zip it down to. Let air in and if you’re really hot and. You don’t want to take the jacket off you can sort of put the zippers together and now you got a lot of air flow into the jacket the materials super light they call it shake dry and so essentially what they’ve done is they have the gore-tex material but a lot of the gore-tex material outfits out there. Have an extra layer on the top and what happens is when that layer gets wet or moist it makes the jacket a little bit. Cooler with this shake dry they eliminate that upper material and so. You’re essentially just having the gore-tex and then the shake dry stuff now with the shake dry pretty much you. Just shake the water off your jacket beads on your jacket and you just shaking off and that’s sort of neat then. The hood let me take my hat off here so. With the hood they have this little. Little layer of material that fits. Underneath so when you have the hood on. It it’s a little bit harder to blow. Off i guess and so that’s sort of neat. Feature and it also keeps the rain from. Getting into your face then on the one. The bottoms here they have these bungee. Cords that you can tighten the fitting, and they have it on either side they. Also have a bungee cord on the back of the hood you can tighten up the hood as. Necessary but that’s pretty much it with the jacket it also oh obviously if you’re running at night or something like that it has some nice reflective material and it. Goes down the side so it’s a 360 type. Reflective tape and then on the inside. Of the jacket it’s all fully seemed so. They have the seams going along any place that maybe water or other moisture. Could get into the jacket this is all taped up so which is super nice. They don’t recommend using this jacket. With a backpack just because it’s not really designed for that it’s designed for running with minimal gear. You know you could probably use like a water bladder or something like that on the back but not like backpacking its. Not really designed for that but i really like the jacket and i don’t know what size is this i think it went with size large which is perfect. Let’s see here up no i got an extra large okay so what i found with the gore. Products is you probably want to if. You’re on the cusp of going say large. Extra-large definitely go with the extra large i went with the extra large because i want to use this jacket to layer up so typically I’ll wear three. Layers so I’ll wear like a base layer and then actually have another gore product that i wear that really like. On top of that sort of mid-layer and then the jacket now as far as the. Temperatures that you’d use a jacket in anything above 60 the jackets going to. We probably too hot so i would say the. Jacket is probably perfect for 30 to 55. Degrees maybe depending on what you’re. Have underneath but the other great. Thing is it is light the pocket at. The top here acts as a stuff bag as well. So you can stuff the whole jacket into. The pocket if you need it to and again. It is a minimal jacket so there’s not. Much else you got for it there’s no hand. Pockets or anything like that sometimes. I think when i was out there running it would have been nice to have a hand pocket especially if i started getting a little hot like i would a lot of times run with gloves and so it would be nice. To be able to stuff some gloves in the pocket but other than that really like this jacket it sells for 299. Dollars which can be expensive but you. Figure of shoes these days are running. Good shoes at least or running about 120 to 150 dollars so you know this jackets. Gonna laskey multiple seasons whereas a. Una muy buena propuesta para estos días que salimos y está medio medio para hacerte el running y no acabar mojándonos el patagonia oudín y hasta. Hi this is tyler with trail for two and today I’m going to be doing a quick review on the patagonia Houdini wind. Shirt so I’ve actually had this jacket for a little while now but i wanted to give it a good test out in the field and. Really make sure that the information i was giving you and my reviews and opinions were based on actual field experience and not just my initial thoughts of it after opening it from the. Package that i ever seemed it in so as. You see here it is quite a small package on just only a couple inches tall by need four or five inches long here this. Is actually stuffed into its own chest pocket so this is the extent of the. Pocket you see here to that there’s a. Little tab if you wanted to attach it to a pack with a carabiner by some other. Method so it is pretty compact nice. Little package here i know that a few other wind shirts the pocket is larger. So when you stuff it into it doesn’t come back down into such a small space. And it’s kind of freely moving around i. Will say that it is a little bit of a wrestling match to try to get it in here. And it is a little bit tricky to close. It up i have found though that if you. Unzip the zipper first it makes it. Slightly easier to get it in but it is. Still, a little bit rough to squeeze it. In here so before we get started I’ll go. Ahead and weigh it so you have a feel. For what we’re looking at so according. To my scale here i have a man’s size. Small and it weighs three point four. Nine ounces so it is a pretty lightweight option it is a very thin. Material it’s by no means the lightest. Wind shirt that there is out there and but it’s also not the heaviest there are. Quite a few that are heavier than this but i would say that it does kind of fall into the mid-range as far as weight goes, so we’ll go ahead and take a look at it so open it up. Like i said this is the chest pocket. And that is the one and only pocket so. That might be a drawback for you if you’re looking for some storage space this jacket definitely does not have it. It is very minimalistic has very few. Features which is partly why i like it. It’s very simple so here as you see it. Is a full length zipper which is nice. You don’t have to pull it on over your head but it is a full length zipper just. Kind of interesting to that it’s not light even with the full length zipper so on a couple different features that i. Want to talk about here first of all start with on the cuff so if you take a. Look at the cuff the top is just a normal stitch but underneath about half. Of the wrist is elastic so I’d know if. They did that to cut down on weight or whatever but it’s kind of nice because the top will stay flat to your wrist and. So if there is any water or anything that rolls off or beans off it’s not dealing with you know this wrinkled. Material but it does stay pretty flat to. Your wrist and then also if you’re needing to pull. Up your sleeves at all that elastic on the bottom really keeps a snug fit and. Again on that top part is very flat. Against your arm so any moisture can run. Off if you needed to pull up your sleeve like that and it does a nice job it stays pretty secure pretty snug so. That’s one feature that’s kind of nice. Having that available so taking a look at the jacket here like i said it is a full length zipper this is a man’s size. Small like i said so if you take a look. It does zip up pretty high that’s. Actually a feature that i really like it really keeps you warm and it really does. What its name says it is a wind shirt and it does job of keeping out the wind and keeping. You really warm so that added height to. The zipper really encloses everything so. That’s pretty nice and again like i said the chest pocket is really only about this big right here so that’s not very. Substantial again there are not any side. Pockets here but that’s something you. May want to think about so the really. The selling point that pushed me in the. Direction of this jacket was the fit of. The hood and it’s cinch capabilities so. There are other jackets out there that have these you know hoods that are. Able to cinch down but i did quite a bit of research before and i went to. Different stores try them all on went online looked at different reviews. Watched youtube videos and it all came. Down to really me liking the features of. This jacket the best I’ll go ahead and. Show you the hood it is a pretty snug. Fit to begin with which is pretty nice even with it not zipped up all the way. You know it conforms to your head and. Stays on it’s a really nice fit and when. You zip this up all the way really the only thing exposed is just your face. Right here so in those conditions where it is windy or even if you get caught in a light rain and that’s something that is really nice to have also there is in. The back here if you can see it there’s. A little pull tab that you’re able to cinch you down the hood even further so. If you cinch that down really it’s basically cinches right here. All the way back and so it’s really just. Kind of brings it all in right on your. Head and really conforms to your head and that’s part of the reason i like this too is that there are other jackets out there where the hood is not very movable meaning that when you move your head that kind of stays in the forward direction in your head moves sideways but this does a really nice job. Of keeping with your head so if you’re. Really active running or doing anything. Like that this does a really nice job of keeping. Up with that so primarily i use this. Jacket up in the mountains and I’m hiking and when i go out on lakes flag. Fishing up in the mountains even if it’s. A sunny day and it’s pretty warm the wind can get pretty chilly and so this is something nice to have to take out on. The water with me also just to provide that extra layer of protection it. Actually is a really good layer of sun. Protection also sometimes even if it’s. Warm while i was throw this on to have that action that extra layer just because it is so thin in fact you can. Probably see through the material here. It is very thin you can see my hand behind it but um it is very lightweight. Which is a good thing it lives up to its. Name of a wind shirt and if you throw on. Another layer under this shirt it really does an extra nice job of insulating you. From the elements i have worn this in a. Light rain and it did a really nice job the water beated up rolled right off i. Had no problem i wasn’t wet or clammy underneath it all but i definitely would. Not recommend substituting this jacket. For a real rain jacket if you were to. Come upon any real rain conditions but. If you know you get caught in between some weather unexpected weather this is. Definitely a good item to have with you even if you’re just going on a day hike or not really expecting any sort of weather this is a great option to have so i definitely recommend the patagonia. Houdini if you’re looking into a lightweight wind shirt and it doesn’t have a lot of features as far as storage goes but what kind of pushed me. In the direction of this jacket was its. Capability here with the hood and the. Of the hood so something else to that. I’ll do is I’ll I’ll wear a hat and then put the hood over it and that cinching capability really helps to snug it all. In on your head I’m also same kind of idea of the wrist. Being flat on the front and then it’s cinching in the back or having the. Elastic on the back half on the front of. Your jacket here so the front there’s not any elastic here at all but there is. A shock cord here that runs from. Basically here all the way around the back to this side so it cinches in the. Back and keeps the front flat so that’s. Something nice too is you don’t get this awkward bunched jacket in the front but. Pretty much everything in the front stays flat and conforms to your body so. That’s something that’s nice too so definitely look at the patagonia Houdini. If it’s something you’re looking into our highly recommend. Oh.
Hi I’m jessie anderson from red foxx outfitters I’m here to talk about the Houdini jacket and pullover today one of. My favorite parts about working in the outdoor a specialty industry now is seeing how some really great products that were designed for outdoor use translate into my own running so in the. Past I’ve mostly dealt with running brands and it’s been great to get into brands like patagonia environment and see some of the things they have designed for the elements which also served really well for Michigan running especially in the winter examples they’re trail shoes that are out there that are a little more aggressive that were made in the snow but today i want to talk about the Houdini because this thing is a lifesaver for me last winter i did not have one and i realized after i got one i could have used it thirty to fifty times depending on the weather basically what it is a. Very thin shell it’s a two point four rip stop nylon it has a dwr treatment in. It so if you get caught out in a rain shower it can wick away a lot of rain it does soak through if you’re in a pouring you know gale strim but generally it’s great. Protection from the elements but the big thing when it comes to the winter is it is great with the wind so this morning i ran in this pullover i started against the wind it blocked the wind going out but then that 2.49 line doesn’t overheat me on the way back when I’m running with the wind there’s anyone that runs through the winter knows that could be pretty brutal as you deal with the elements going back and forth if it things do warm up on you cuz. We live in Michigan and those things happen you know the weather in fifteen minutes may be way different than when the runs started it’s so light and. Packable it packs down into its own pocket this version is actually the hooded zip up version and it packs into this the pullover that I’m wearing is on the hanger behind me actually packs down. Slightly smaller so I’ve been in workouts and more of the fall in the spring where i start and i need this guy to protect against the wind but it was i get warmed up i can pop it off usually carry it in my hand if you have a stash pocket somewhere fits in their very well i actually if. When it comes to running prefer the pullover version because it doesn’t have a hood the hooded version is great i like having the full zip but the hood. Doesn’t roll up that great so when you get going in the wind it can kind of cause it creates a noise and everything but overall this is one of the lightest. Weight performance pieces you can have I’d recommend it in running weather down to 25 degrees playing out faster moving which depending on the winter can be a lot of days out there so yeah if you. Everybody jonathan gimme calm here and I’m just gonna bring to light on my favorite piece is a kit it’s a classic and always comes with me and it’s actually in my pocket right now it is the patagonia Houdini jacket gets name. Houdini because it can get into pretty tight spaces and it packs into his own chest pocket it’s just a wind jacket. Nothing special but man oh man is this. Thing get used it has a dwr coat coating. On it so it will you know shed some rain. Or snow but it’s no means waterproof. Although there is a waterproof version and it’s just a very simple wind jacket. Here’s a chest pocket right here this whole jack will easily stuff into that there’s a little loop on here so you put onto a carabiner on your harness or a backpack this is an extra large it fits. Me very well and last esaias cusp which. Is always nice just a nice basic hood. Very thin fabric slight bit mechanical. Stretch to it for how thin it is of. Course I’m always concerned about how durable will be after two seasons of use lots of use I’ve only had a patch up one. Little hole right here some tenacious tape just super easy to do so comes in. Put it non hooded and even a pullover an. Rack style and there is a waterproof version as well we’ll have links on all those below this is the patagonia eenie jacket there it is. A super light and minimal piece for the trail runner the patagonia men’s Houdini. Pants is an excellent option for helping. To cut any harsh winds when you’re out for a run let’s take a look at their features these pants are constructed with a super light 15 d 100% nylon. Material so that is a rip stop nylon. Material it’s just a single layer it’s nice and lightweight weighs in at about. Three ounces for the pants so super light material is in play we do. Have a dwr finish on the pant so it will shed a light rain but it’s not waterproof so keep that in mind when. Picking up the Houdini pants we don’t. Have many features in play but there are a few that i want to call out we do have an elastic waistband with a draw cord so you can certainly get a nice comfortable fit and if it’s a little loose you can tie it down and make sure it’s nice and tight for you we do have a single pocket. On the thigh or hip region and you can. Stow some small items there whether it’s chapstick a gel maybe a key if you need. To and it also stuffs into that pocket. So you can get a really nice compact pack size with these pants. By stuffing them into that pocket so self stowing pocket is really nice down. Around the i guess cuffs of the pant. Or around the ankle portion we do have a nice snap opening so you can get a nice. Easy on easy off system with the Houdini. Pants so really nice snaps down at the bottom that allow that ease of putting. Then on or taking them off so nice features in play with the pant the fit. Is fairly slim wearing a medium here, and they are pretty tight-fitting you could see them being a good layering piece if you tend to layer minimally but if you do want to put a thicker layer underneath consider sizing up we do have. Articulated knees with the pants, so they do allow for good freedom of movement again with trail went running in mind or. Fast and light pursuits you do want some. Is well-known for its outdoor products and these shorts partner their trail running line shorts are also part of the. Flight series which are the lightest and best performing fabric that they use in their parent they also feature the. Flashdrive fabric which is really good at keeping you dry and moving that moisture away from your body better than. Insurance are actually available in a couple different models these are your basic shorts, and they have five inch inseams you can also buy what’s called a better than naked split shorts which actually have a split along the side a little higher on the thighs. That’s what you’re comfortable with and you can get those in a three and a half inch inseam or a five-inch inseam although the split shorts are available only in the north face block type of coloring you can get these also in a coral blue version let’s have a look. At a couple of features on these shorts your starters the logo on them is actually reflective so you’re running at night but you’ll have a little bit of visibility but it also some really good fabrics that are used that are lightweight and breathable and there is stretch mesh fabric, so they’re very comfortable and hang loose on your skin along the back we have a number of different pockets which have a look at first in the middle you have a stash pocket with a zipper to keep those things you really don’t want to lose like your cartridges as well there are two other pockets alongside of that, and they’re handy for storing gels or energy packets of any sort you’ll notice in the middle of these pockets it’s actually sewn shut and that’s so that nothing bounces out when you’re right inside the shorts you’ll find nice liner and you’ll notice there’s of course no seams so that will. Okay guys like i said today i get to review a trio of tech tees these are all. Three from outdoor research tech tees in. My opinion are probably one of the most. Important versatile and just. All-around pieces that you need for all seasons i wear these spring summer and. Fall and then they can also be great base layers in the winter so for those. Of you that don’t know I’m sure everybody knows what tech t is but the tech t is a trim fitting athletic. T-shirt that is generally not made of cotton just because cotton is not a performance fabric and doesn’t dry quickly it also just doesn’t have that great form fit and performance that you’re looking for. That you get with synthetic materials so. The first step in the trio is the. Outdoor research igniter this tech. T is probably the most comfortable of. The three I’m going to review in this video they call this a heathered. Material I’m not quite sure really what. Heathered means but to me it just means that it’s soft so this is an all synthetic but this one feels the most. Like cotton so if you’re looking for the. Most comfortable t-shirt i would go with. The igniter it also happens to be the most trim fit so all three of these are. Mediums and four for this medium. This is definitely the most trim fit it’s the tightest and the arms and in the armpits so it just depends on what. You’re looking for as far as fit but. This is the trim stuv the three and this is the most comfortable so if you’re doing maybe an activity that isn’t the. Most high output or you don’t need the. The Highest performance as far as wicking properties breath ability quick drying if. You’re just looking for something a little bit more like a t-shirt but still has performance properties of a tec. Teeth look at the outdoor research igniter. Okay this is the echo from outdoor. Research the echo is by far the lightest. This shirt is unbelievable just. Because it really feels like you’re wearing nothing so when i want to. Do something that i almost don’t want to wear a shirt but i just want to wear a shirt maybe for abrasion protection with. A pack or if it’s super hot out and i. Don’t want to get sunburned I’ll throw on a shirt this is the one I’m gonna look for because this is just the absolute lightest of the three that I’m. Reviewing today again the echo that this. Has kind of dual colorway a nice light. Blue with this high visibility yellow so this would be a great option for a running shirt as well especially just so you can be seen on the road as. Far as fit i would say this is actually. Probably the loosest or the largest of. The cuts it’s definitely looser in the sleeves. And it’s a little bit baggy er in the. Waist so it just has that loose airy feeling to it really feels like you’re wearing nothing this is a this is also a great piece like i said this is the one. I’m gonna go for it when i don’t really want to wear a shirt but i either have to wear a shirt or i just want some sort of protection that a shirt offers I’m gonna look at the echo again super high. Performance and this pattern this. Fabric pattern its kind of square. Crosshatch pattern very high performance. Again these are all quick-drying very. Breathable so yeah this is another great. Option again the lightest okay guys this. Is the last shirt in the trip today this is the outdoor research gage now the gage in my opinion is the highest performing shirt of the three this. Fabric is like magic it’s super breathable it dries amazingly. Quick i think the fit is probably in. My opinion it’s probably the best it kind of combines between the igniter and the echo kind of in-between fit so not. So tight that it’s tight in the arms and. Tighten the armpits but it’s also not baggy in the waist. Either so i think this is the probably the best fit as far as performance is concerned and this fabric. Is also probably the highest performance as far as far as breath ability quick-drying just overall this is what you think of. When you think of a high performance tech tee now it’s not the most comfortable and. It’s not the most lightweight so you’re gonna have to strike that balance between what do you want it to feel like on your skin kind of that on the skin feel also are you willing to sacrifice. Just a little bit of weight it just has a little bit of a heavier weight not as. Much as an airy feel as the echo but i. Think the strikes are good balance and this is the highest performing of. The three it also has the most detail as. Kind of the exposed stitching has kind. Of a pretty cool design may be more of a runners look in the back not so much like an outdoor sports like rock. Climbing or mountain bike look it has more of a runners look but this is. A great one super high performance if I’m going to be doing a high output activity or something like. Climbing in a gym that’s general a little warmer than the outside I’ll go for this one just because it. Dries so fast and it’s probably the. The Highest performance in my opinion overall all three shirts are great now. My only gripe with all three is that. They run really large for me i like tech. Tees to be slim fit i don’t want them to. Be big and bulky like a traditional just street wear or street cotton t-shirt i. Want them to be form fit because for me performance is number one when it comes to this style t-shirt so i had to size all of these down everything I’ve ever reviewed for outdoor research all the tops the jackets the shirts they’ve all been larges all three of these that i. Reviewed in this video are all mediums i originally got the largest, and they were way too big so if you want something a. Little higher performance and you like the trim fit that you kind of see on me in these videos be sure to size down one you normally would get in a typical t-shirt so that’s my only gripe is the. Fit be sure to size down but other than that all three are great different applications we’re looking for comfort lightweight or high performance i think that they pretty much have the whole the. And more of a synthetic material and by. Minimalist i mean not only the material is super lightweight but there’s only. One chest pocket and some of the details. With the stitching and the look are are. Stripped down to be honest i would like. Two chest pockets i like the not only.
